The Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC) highlighted the importance of climate-friendly buildings, showcasing an example from building retrofits in Mexico. The sector is crucial, according to their recent Global Status Report, as it used 32% of the world's energy and generated 34% of CO₂ emissions in 2024.

However, high upfront costs and a lack of skilled labour are slowing down the process. The Partnership for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (PEEB) has some solutions, such as tailored financing and local adaptation. Its projects in Mexico, for example, improved the living conditions of more than 29,500 people, reducing energy consumption by up to 83%.
